Curved Cichlid Aquarium

This freshwater aquarium built on the hills of Lugano stands out majestically in shape and size within a living room with attention to the smallest details.

It is an imposing curved pool furnished with rocks and sand coming directly from Lake Malawy, the addition of ornamental plants in the background creates an important perspective effect.

The aquarium has a totally customized geometry, straight in the first part and curved in the final part harmoniously following the wall of the living room. The volume is 1400 litres, the weight of the empty tank is over 400 kg.

One of the unusual technical details that makes this custom-made cichlid aquarium one of a kind is its suspended position, completely raised off the ground. For structural and design reasons, the aquarium could not be placed directly on the floor, so a steel structure was designed and built that supports it and secures it firmly to a load-bearing wall without weighing on the attic of the villa.

This innovative solution not only made it possible to overcome the structural limitations, but also added a characteristic element: having a completely free area under the aquarium for the positioning of the filters and electronic components. This unusual solution demonstrates the design team's commitment and creativity in tackling unique challenges and overcoming obstacles to realize the customers' dream aquarium. Every aspect, even the most technical, has been treated with extreme attention to guarantee a final result of high quality and functionality.

Given that the installation area was not accessible to heavy vehicles, the use of a helicopter was necessary to position the aquarium in the hall. An operation that aroused wonder and admiration, confirming the attention to detail and commitment put into the creation of this extraordinary aquarium. The complete installation required 6 days of work and 8 people.

150 yellow cichlids and 150 cichlids which in mature livery will become bright blue in color have been inserted inside. The gray rocks resting on a sandy bottom of Lake Malawy are positioned in the foreground of the hard-stemmed plants placed near the back wall. The minimalist appearance of the aquarium accentuates the scenographic effect of the cichlids, allowing them to shine as the true protagonists of this aquarium. The vibrant colorations and elegant movements of cichlids capture attention, creating a living spectacle of beauty and nature.

The aquarium is totally automated and managed remotely with 24-hour control via cameras in the filter area. Weekly chemical tests and water changes are automated as is the administration of products and food to the fish.
